Until the sun rises / Work in progress is an installation made of pictures projected simultaneously on three screens in a large, dark room. The projected images have all been taken in Tokyo’s fringe areas that, at night, become a theater of shadows, searching and endless waiting.
Spectators enter a room left in total darkness. On the central wall, images of empty nighttime cityscapes are projected at a constant rhythm. Sporadically, an image of a man appears on the left wall, the right wall or both. The images disappear almost as suddenly as they appeared. On the main screen, a flow of empty scenes continue to float at its own, slower pace, becoming the visual baseline of a silent soundtrack.
Silence. The soundscape is made up of recordings from the places where the photos were taken. The silences that fill up empty places, the isolation drawn by distant noise, the sound of waiting, of tension, slowly absorbed by a mental space.
