50 cm is the space allocated to each member of the audience, the average width of a pair of public cheeks. From which one can deduce, with the necessary shift in perspective, that Anna Van Bree's company La Belgo-Suisse would like to consider very seriously the role of the spectator and that of the actor, and to invent a new space for discussion. For this latest creation, the vector is the fury of Ajax. For the occasion, Mathieu Bertholet reworks Sophocles' tragedy, into a more carnal version, he says. But the actors' own obsessions are also a vector for the piece. 50 cm is the result of a conflictual stage experience : a progressive and collective invention which wrestles with the world and serves it to the audience. Here confronted : a hero without help from the gods, and a theatre with help from the audience.
